Relief from Psoriasis Whats New
Studies have suggested that stress is a common trigger for psoriasis flares and can elicit a wide range of negative physiologic and emotional reactions in sufferers. In response to this, Abby VanVoorhees MD and Richard G. Fried MD, Ph.D have produced a psoriasis guided imagery and relaxation program to help psoriasis patients improve their skin and their quality of life. The home CD audio program contains a brief educational component with an explanation of the pathophysiology of psoriasis. This is followed by three guided imagery and relaxation exercises. The first is a 20 minute comprehensive, psoriasis focused exercise to be practiced at home or wherever a quiet span of uninterrupted time can be found. The second is a brief psoriasis focused exercise that can be done in several minutes while at work or wherever. Finally, a brief guided imagery and general relaxation exercise is provided without specific focus on psoriasis. The program was funded by an educational grant from Amgen and all profits will be given to the NPF.

Acne There are many treatments for acne - creams, washes and medications. However, sometimes these regimens are not right for you. There is a new treatment for patients with persistent acne. It is ideal for those who do not want to take strong medications, and for those who do not respond satisfactorily to conventional treatment. It is a safe, painless, noninvasive procedure that utilizes the BLU-U Blue Light Photodynamic Therapy .

BLU-U is a very special blue light that can kill the p. acnes bacteria in your skin. Just beneath the surface of the skin lie hundreds of tiny glands called sebaceous glands whose function is to excrete the oily substance called sebum.Often the tiny pathway for the sebum to escape becomes clogged, and a bacterium called p. acnes grows inside. The area swells and forms a pimple on the skin. Treatments usually require a 15-minute session once or twice per week. Yardley Dermatology Associates can discuss with you if your case of acne is right for BLU-U Blue Light Treatment.

Gentle Yag Yardley Dermatology Associates now offers skin tightening and smoothing with Gentle Yag Laser.

The GentleYag laser treatment tightens the skin by transferring heat to the deepest layers of the skin. The non-ablative laser creates thermal injury below the epidermis resulting in a healing response to the upper dermis. This process then causes the dwelling fibroblasts to stimulate the precursors of collagen, elastin, and other proteins. By activating enough of your own collagen source, wrinkles and sagging skin can diminish within weeks after the treatment.

Many areas of the body can benefit from GentleYag Laser skin tightening. It can be used to tighten skin on the face and neck, improve shallow acne scars, and help to reduce unsightly stretch marks, both red and white.

If you are considering this type of treatment, please feel free to contact our office for a consultation.

The Palomar StarLux™ Laser System

The Palomar Starlux is a platform that allows for the delivery of different laser and intense pulse light treatments. These laser and light therapies used alone or in combination with one another or in combination with fillers (Restylane, Radiesse, Sculptra, Juvederm) and Botox afford patients the opportunity for nonsurgical facial enhancement, facelifts, and rejuvenation. Below is a general description for two specific treatments: removing unwanted pigmented lesions and unwanted hair.

Removal of Pigmented Lesions:

Intense Pulsed Light sends light through the skin to target the undesirable tissue, and leaves the surrounding tissue unharmed. The process is gradual and, therefore, more gentle than traditional laser therapies. The Palomar system targets red or brown skin cells and destroys them while leaving the surrounding lighter cells unharmed. The lesion darkens and crusts after treatment, and is naturally sloughed off the skin within two weeks. During this process, collagen production is stimulated, rejuvenating the skin, shrinking pores, and filling in fine lines and indentations. The result is healthier, more vibrant, younger looking skin.

The Palomar System also treats many other skin conditions including:
  • Rosacea
  • Age spots
  • Enlarged pores
  • Visible blood vessels
  • Unwanted freckles
Removal of Unwanted Hair :

The Palomar STARLUX™ System works by emitting pulses of intense lamp-light into the hair follicles. The light is absorbed by the pigment in the follicles and converted to heat. The heat then loosens the hair and disables the follicular cells responsible for growing new hair. Pulsed light hair removal treats hair follicles that are in an active growth phase, so usually 6 treatments may be needed to disable all the hair follicles. It is effective in treating larger areas because it removes more than one hair at a time. Most hair removed with the Palomar STARLUX System will not grow back for months, while other hairs may not grow back at all. Hair that does grow back may be thinner and lighter in color. Unlike traditional laser hair removal, our advanced StarLux Pulsed Light system is available for hair removal of all skin types, from the fairest to the darkest.
